Madrid Book Fair 2023

The increase in requests for participation from booksellers, publishers and distributors, year after year, led the organizers of the Madrid Book Fair to look for a new space and, therefore, in 1967 the Fair moved to El Retiro Park. Time has shown the success in choosing this space, today closely linked to this annual appointment with the book and reading.

A unique meeting of letters in its plural format, in one of the green lungs of Madrid, where visitors have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of genres and themes, from classic and contemporary literature to comics, children’s books, cookery and many more topics.

Over time, the Madrid Book Fair has become one of the most important and recognized book fairs in the Spanish-speaking world, giving rise to a holiday for literature lovers in which publishers, booksellers, authors and book lovers in general to celebrate and promote the world of books. Both established authors and new talents participate in the Book Fair, which makes it a meeting point for literary and cultural exchange.

A place to find and meet. A space that accommodates all kinds of literature, where its attendees can enjoy a wide range of activities, such as book presentations, conferences, round tables, book signings and exhibitions.

The Madrid Book Fair 2022 was a resounding success for attendees, writers and professionals in the sector. 378 booths were set up, housing 423 participants, among 107 bookstores in the Community of Madrid and publishers from all over Spain: 167 from Madrid and 109 from other provinces. With the presence of 14 distributors and 23 official institutions, the Fair recovered normal sales, which rose to more than 10 million euros. The influx was more than 3,000,000 visitors.

This year, this unique Fair turns 90 years old. The artist María Simavilla is the creator of the poster, with which she has wanted to capture what this event represents around books and what it has meant for the city of Madrid. As a tribute, the poster presents a typical Madrid façade in which it places a scene starring a diverse reading community that could belong to any traditional neighborhood in the city.
